Outside Plant: FieldSmart FSC Cable Assemblies
Simply the best patch cords around
Clearfield offers cable assemblies in custom and standard lengths, ranging from simple multimode and single mode patch cords, to some of the most complex assemblies in inside and outside plant environments, including distribution, breakout style, drop cable and drop node. Automated polishing processes ensure precise control of polish radius, apex offset and fiber undercut.
Our process engineers have perfected termination techniques for all types of specialty cable designs, including ribbon fiber, high-fiber count, and ruggedized. We support most industry standard connector types, including the industry’s latest hardened fiber optic connectors (HFOC).

OSP Cable Assemblies

Outside plant cable assemblies from Clearfield are made to perform flawlessly in even the most demanding environments. Our designs protect failure-prone areas, such as transitions to protect against pistoning and that no lateral movement occurs due to temperature variations.
Breakout

Breakout cable is appropriate for low- to high-fiber count applications in demanding indoor environments, such as manufacturing areas, unprotected communication closets and small central offices. It is also an excellent choice for outside plant pre-stubbed environments where a larger tight-buffered jacket is required.
- Extra-rugged cable with tight-buffered fiber from 900um to 2.5mm
- Aramid strength member/jacket construction makes high-tensile strength terminations possible * Riser, plenum and fire-retardant rated cable jacket available
- User-friendly with easily identifiable cable sub-units, which are compatible with standard connectors
- Versatile cable designs well suited for in-conduit, lashed aerial, direct burial and indoor (riser and plenum) environments
- Fiber counts from 4 to 144
Breakout cable is appropriate for low to mid-fiber count applications in demanding indoor and outdoor environments. Common uses include manufacturing areas, unprotected communication closets, and small central offices.
Breakout style cables are easy to install and simple to terminate without the need for fan-out kits. Indoor/Outdoor versions of this cable are durable cables that are OFNR rated so they can be used indoors, while also having a -40c to +85c operating temperature range and the benefits of fungus, water and UV protection making them perfect for outdoor applications. The indoor/outdoor versions come standard with 2.5mm sub units. The indoor only cable is standard with 2mm sub units.
- Extra rugged cable with individual compact components for each tight-buffered fiber
- Each jacketed sub-cable contains one tight buffered fiber and aramid strength yarns
- Riser, plenum and fire retardant rated cable jacket available
- User-friendly with easily identifiable cable sub-units which are compatible with standard connectors

FAN Drop Node

Drop node assemblies are designed to connect the optical distribution node to the optical drop cable in a CATV network.
Clearfield ensures the quality of its drop node assemblies by utilizing factory terminated connectors, a fully water-blocked entry connector, loose-tube, gel-filled cable (on most assemblies) and a GR-326 compliant 900um fiber termination process to provide exceptional performance and stability over a full range of outdoor temperature and environmental conditions. The end-user gains complete control over drop access and reconfiguration.
- Easy installation into the Optical Distribution Node (ODM)
- Feed-through fitting (FTF) guarantees that movement does not occur at the transition, where fiber can move or break due to wide temperature variations
- Fibers are up-jacketed using Teflon tubing which can endure temperatures from -40 to 200 degrees Celsius
- Assemblies using loose-tube, gel-filled OSP cable are sealed to maintain the water tight
- integrity of the optical node
- Strain relief matches cable load rating
- Provides maximum cable management inside ODN 900um or 2.0 mm jacketed fan-out cables
- 900um termination process is GR-326 compliant for exceptional performance in harsh environments from -40° to 85° C
- Labeling of fiber available to ensure easy identification
